Room for Food is a branded immersive experience that allows viewers to delve into contrasting restaurant spaces, one that influences a positive emotional response and creates less food waste and one that influences a negative emotional response and creates more food waste. With a better understanding of the elements that lead to wasteful behavior, diners can pick the restaurants they eat at with more intention.

The Set Up

The two contrasting spaces sit right next to each other on half of the circular base, allowing viewers to look at the two spaces at the same time and see their stark differences.

Unstable Room

There are a few factors that determine one’s negative emotional response to a restaurant space. These factors include cool lighting, fast-paced music, imagery of food on the walls, and various shades of the colors red and yellow.

Stable Room

The solution to more mindful eating and unobtrusive interior design is a space that uses warm lighting, greenery, slow-paced, nature music and warm, earthy colors.

The Information

The other side of the display is informational as it explains each of the elements that lead to more or less food waste in each given space. This information lies on two posters - one with the title unstable room and one with the title stable room. Below the posters sits a 95 gallon bag of trash filled with food containers, representing just a fraction of the 2 billion pounds of annual food waste produced by restaurants.
